Austin Prep as part of Black History Month is proud to salute Maya Angelou. She was an American poet, singer and civil rights activist. She is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years.

Austin students in Ecuador spent Sunday on a 8.4 mile hike around Lago Cuicocha, a breathtaking crater lake with two large islands in the middle. Students practiced their Spanish with their guide Antonio and were treated to rhythms of his band after dinner overlooking the Andes.

On Saturday, Austin Prep students in Ecuador visited a church in Otavalo and hung out in the Plaza. It didn’t take long for the group to engage in some fun, water-filled games with some of the younger children at the market.

This morning, 14 students and 2 chaperones departed for the Ecuadorian capital of Quito to embark on a 10-day service trip. The students will be immersed in local culture while carrying out Austin Prep's guiding principles of Veritas, Unitas and Caritas.

Austin Prep's 2019 Day of Service came to a conclusion with students transporting bags, boxes ans bins to awaiting vans destined for the three benefiting organizations. Students, faculty and staff all banded together to make the day, Austin Prep's 5th Annual, a great success!

Last night, sixth grade students proudly presented The Egyptian Museum, the culmination of a semester's worth of cross curricular efforts between history and English. Students acted as museum docents, showcasing their work during the well-attended event.

As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, Austin Prep is proud to recognize Hiram Revels who was a U.S. Senator, minister and college administrator. He became the first African American to serve in Congress when elected to the Senate to represent Mississippi in 1870.
