Context around them. If a bad codebase is inherited, and the devs have org support to make incremental changes it can be hopeful and give a sense of control that prevents draining motivation. Meanwhile, a good codebase slowly rotting under stifling management can be stressful.

Software devs work produces a tremendous amount of money. While you're working there and most often, after you leave and stop being paid for it. If you don't aim to get a significant part of that, there's no point of the entire career. Business will happily take money you earned.

My mouse slipped or something when I was trying to upload a cover image to a article and it got rid of a paragraph I'd typed. I don't even remember what it was now... I miss medium's sensible autosave that won't overwrite more content with less.
