Dutton distances himself from - the $423 million Manus security contract, awarded in a closed tender, to a company with no experience, is all on the Department now.
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has moved to distance himself from a controversial government contractor, which is providing security on Manus Island, arguing he had "no sight" of the tender...

These comments from Dutton are nonsense - indeed they're lies. As Minister he would have had to sign off on the awarding of the contract, given its value. Is he saying he simply signs contracts without asking what they are for, how they were granted and why?

Seems the norm in the party as three ministers are revealed to be unaware of the actions of their staff in the same day. Or this simply what it appears to be - a pathetic excuse to avoid responsibility for very poor and self serving decisions.

Hang on, wasn't Dutton arguing that medical services and hospitals were sufficient to support sick refugees? But now it's an island so remote he has to have a closed tender process and pay $17 million a month to supply security?

It's impossible for not to know about this. This much money doesn't get spent under the radar. At a bare minimum he would have been briefed by his department for Estimates hearings

A Minister isn’t required to sight or sign off on $400million spending? WTF. If true, the Director General and the Minister should resign. Gross negligence methinks.

I’d love to see their delegations schedule. Spending that kind of money in the state dept where I work would need Cabinet sign-off. I don’t think the Dept Secretary can authorise more than $1m.

Alongside the $444m to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, that's almost a billion $ given without proper tender or public transparency. Seems the only security threat to Australians is the coalition gauging funds from the coffers

Dutton leaps in to get au pairs for mates on a Sunday, but has no idea about a $423 million contract awarded to Paladin in a closed tender? That’s bullshit, this man must be investigated.

This is rancid, and reeks of corruption. How much does Paladin donate to a political party?

Why donate if you can employ a retired pollie for more than they're (honestly) worth? It's just a matter of when and how many.

big contracts awarded to donors are usually inflated so that money goes from public funds to party coffers remember, just a few years ago the party was so cash strapped they sold the prime ministership to Malcolm

In a way, I love this. When these public servants, particularly in Border Force & immigration, gleefully apply the inhumane policies of this appalling govt, now they can get a feel for the betrayal refugees feel when they come seeking asylum. Backs turned on you & blow torch on.

‘No sight’ ... Slippery, legally advised choice of words from Dutton. Certainly didn’t say ‘I had no knowledge or involvement’.

We haven't heard the end of this one. If he throws the department under the bus, someone will hopefully break ranks and tell the truth.
