Day Seven--not sure what inspired this one but felt important to honor the call from within to say the words and send them out. (and also, Geaux Tigers!)

And day four is done! Feeling more prepared for this blog a day challenge than I did last year at this time, but we are still early...plenty of days left in king cake season for the honeymoon to wear off.

Well, it's that time of year...king cake season means a new King Cake Writing Challenge in the blog...some of us are self motivated and others of us require the temptation of food at the other end of the work...apparently I fall into the latter category...

Just when I thought my blog was forsaken by my eternal struggle with finding time, a few quiet minutes ignited an idea which became a new post...

I can’t remember if I sent you the tweet about shrimp creole or not but that is a really nice Christmas dish. Shrimp and grits is an amazing idea-saw someone else tweeted that. Bananas foster for dessert or some version of that—super special holiday food there.

When I was a kid my grandmother made meatballs and spaghetti 🤣🤣🤣Now, we have boiled shrimp to start then roast with some kind of potato and some kind of vegetable and about 8 million desserts.

Grits and grillades are also a good choice but so is anything with grits-shrimp and grits is always good. Shrimp creole is also a really nice Christmas dish.

As for menu-oyster dressing is probably a must. Gumbo or red beans are nice. Something with pecans🤣Red velvet cake maybe? Real French bread or corn bread. what’s really funny here is I’ve had Christmas in New Orleans my entire life & we don’t eat typica Nola food on that day🤣

Okay....so no wheat anywhere or flour...which makes anything with a roux tricky but there are options! There are loads of gf flours in the grocery store that you could use to make a roux with—I like the King Arthur all purpose gf flour for that personally. More to come...

I woke up this morning immensely grateful for an amazing experience at . I also woke up thinking about erasure and how erasure contributes to the battering of one’s existence. here’s a thread about how I gave up on being me this weekend and how I’m reconciling with it.
