"Fences carve up the world into this and that, yours and mine, in an attempt to tame it and make sense of it. Maps arguably do the same, and perhaps that is why Snufkin never seems to carry one."

So, fun fact: birds and insects show up on radar. Often. As in, pretty much every day. Can we visually delineate between migrating birds and insects on radar? Usually. Here is a bumbling threaded attempt to show some telltale signs of each using the last 24 hours of radar data.

Did you know: the University of Oregon has an Indigenous UO map on its website and app that maps the spaces, places, landmarks, and events that are indigenous or useful to native students and indigenous people on campus! It was created by our 1st NAIS ARC cohort 📍

When a woman says, “This man raped me a long time ago,” we say, “But that was in the past.” When a girl says, “This boy raped me last night,” we say, “But we can’t wreck his future!” And there she stands, suspended between his past and his future, with no value of her own."

I have a new blog up: It is the best summary I've written on the origins of the North America map, its current status, and more. It's filled with colourful new pictures showing plenty of detail.

Steep, deep, and narrow. Joe Milbrath will talk about mapping Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado, at Practical Cartography Day. Something about the natural color relief on his map just draws me in.

I’m a new fan of “Image trace” in Illustrator. I used it for the first time to convert this frog I drew into happy vectors. I’ll be putting her in my upcoming presentation, so that’s fun.
