This , know that we do not live in antiquity. We are thoroughly modern, dynamic, diverse Nations who define and redefine what it is to be Indigenous, every day. Just like always. Cultures are fluid and living. Adaptation is also a tradition.

It’s refreshing to see that the vast majority of my timeline is now referring to today as . Here’s hoping more of us recognize the work we must do to honor the peoples that came before and are still here with us.

Columbus didn’t “discover America.” He never even reached the land that is now called the United States. What he *did* do is invade and conquer islands where Indigenous peoples already lived.

This thread was a difficult one for me to read. But it is important. As a School Board Member, I’m committed to ensuring students don’t learn lies about our history as Americans. Columbus is not someone any child should be taught to celebrate.

Want to honor Italian heritage? Skip Columbus and learn about these people of Italian heritage worthy of attention—people who have played an active role in the struggle for labor rights, gay and lesbian rights, human rights, and civil rights.

I like this line of thinking... as in, “I wonder if the state will provide more funding to schools to support before school staffing for families who have early work schedules.

I’m curious about the impacts this will have on school staffing, especially at the middle school level. Kids who are dropped off early by families who have early work schedules need support and supervision. I’m also curious about how this will impact smaller high schools.

This looks like a wonderful even! What is your family doing to celebrate Indigenous People’s Day?

Happy ! So proud of our City & District. I don’t normally share the NY Post but this story highlights the disconnect for students when we teach them to value Indigenous folks, while celebrating those whose tried to annihilate them.
