I've seen someone riding down with something like 👇 that puts markers down on the road next to them which looks pretty cool and somewhat less of a target for people to aim for 🙄🤔

ha! yes, have had the pool noodle convo before 😬... maybe I’m being too black hat, but I feel there are some drivers who’d use it as a target, rather than a deterrent 🙄... that said I reckon when I have a pannier/something wider at the back, people do steer a bit clearer 🤔

Volume 41 of Urban Forestry & Urban Greening is now available. It includes some excellent papers, including one by Browning et al. on the relationship between tree cover and depression in residents of US nursing homes.

this👇 is (one of) my favourite parts of the ride... stops cars cutting through from to and makes for a nice quiet cut-through to . doesn’t have to be flash, just functional.

totally! the on-road bit in the middle through light industrial Penrose was actually pretty pleasant too as there were hardly any weekend cars on the wide roads and no big trucks 👍👏🎉

It's where we live and I really dont see many other family cyclists around here (many cyclists full stop really). Part of the reason it's so nice to visit other areas and see other kids and families on 2 wheels. Kylee always waves to other kids :)

Go through here to get south is even worse as you're pretty much forced through the motorway intersections. It's short but intense. Weirdly I feel safer with my daughter on the bike as people are more cautious when they see her (and less abusive).

it’s the bridge over SH20 that goes from the Onehunga Bay Reserve to the reclaimed Taumanu Reserve on the Onehunga foreshore ()

after a largely pleasant, protected & picturesque ride (see 🧵👇) things get pretty ugly once you hit , esp from the kids-eye view 😳... also, what’s with the ridiculous undercover camo-crossings by the roundabouts that most drivers don’t see/ignore 😩😤

yeah... definitely! I wonder how many drivers get freaked out when they see someone riding next to them, particularly someone hauling a trailer and a kid’s bike 😬😁

it’s a really nice ride... largely flat too and if you cross over the MangereBridge, you can get to Ambury Farm for a bit of off-road action 😁

...final leg and honestly the sketchiest... crossing ... no room on the “refuges”... no routes for people on bikes 🙄. at least some parking (check out how compact we can get)... but what a reward for the little man.. 🚲+🍦+🍿+🎥 =👏👍😁🎉

...and through to ... actually not too bad on a weekend without all the trucks... then over to the joys of the path... definitely not convinced the concrete bollards will provide much protection from the roaring traffic 😬...
