American architect, Louis Kahn was born in 1901. In 1959, Jonas Salk, the man who had discovered the polio vaccine, approached Kahn with a project. The Salk Institute was the outcome, 'a facility worthy of a visit by Picasso' and a place to explore sciences for humanity.
