Andy - clearly they've elected to go the "herd immunity" route but neglected to make a formal declaration.

ASSUMING: we (humans) build a 'herd immunity.' Still open for debate if you can get it more than once (short term looks good but a year later?). Or will the virus mutate in the south hemisphere during the north's summer?

Not really. The US has conducted 26.7m tests, against about 25m for the EU overall.

The EU's population is 'only' ~450m. Still considerably more than the US. Helpfully for these stats, the UK left the EU in January, and the ex-Soviet states now struggling with their own outbreaks have never been members of it.
