Dave was an institution in Westmoreland County sports. He hired me three times ... as a stringer, part-timer and finally full-time writer in 1990. I owe my career to him and am proud to have worked under him. Rest In Peace, Dave.

I was sad to learn of the passing of former editor Dave Ailes. He hired me as an intern, and working with him, Tom McMillan and Steve Halvonik was the biggest factor in starting my career. He did that for a lot of us. RIP, Dave.

Those who worked with Mr. Ailes during his 36 years at the Tribune-Review remembered him as an excellent writer and columnist, one who loved covering high school sports even more than the Pirates and Penguins, and who possessed a sense of humor.
