Karen Dee of on spot on: if airports are to remain operational, their fixed costs need to be covered somehow. Furloughing staff is not an option if they have to stay open for freight, emergencies, humanitarian flights etc.

After having publicly announced a support package for airports and airlines, we’re surprised that is now taking a case-by-case approach. Our industry will now have to fight on its own to protect our workforce and our future.

.’s measures to support employers through the pandemic are welcome, but we urge him to set out as soon as possible how Government will support the UK aviation sector, as promised earlier this week, given the scale of disruption.

I know this is a hugely difficult time for government at any level, and in any country, but to say that I am disappointed there's no statement today to outline support for aviation & public transport is an understatement. 1/3

.'s unambiguous statement of support for UK businesses is welcome but with passenger numbers declining rapidly, we urge him to be bold in the aviation support package he announced to ensure airports can reassure staff and passengers.

With travel bans proliferating and passengers being unwilling to fly, traffic through airports has plummeted. Airports may shut down within weeks unless Government takes urgent action.

Flybe played a critical role in the UK aviation system, and it is extremely disappointing that the Government’s promised action failed to materialise. They now need to take urgent steps to support regional economies & airports in the wake of the collapse
