The Chief Justice has opened an opportunity for the nomination of the Speaker of the National Assembly. Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma nominates Cde Thandi Modise and the nomination is seconded by Derek Hanekom.

In light of there being two nominations for the position of Speaker, the house has been adjourned for a ballot paper to be prepared. The house will resume after lunch to elect the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the President.

The Chief Justice has reconvened the House after counting. The results are as follows: Thandi Modise: 250 TM Majola: 83 Spoiled: 3 Thandi Modise is duly elected Speaker of the National Assembly.
