Why are boys and girls different? (Spoiler: it’s not really because of “gender roles.”)

I am so glad that I'm going through 2020 with Jesus. I can't imagine it otherwise.

“By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority?” (Matt 21:23) “The chief priests and the scribes are typical professionals, whether religious or other. They want to see some credentials.”

“Information overload generates the need for moral triage: for straightforward binary decisions about whether we admire or despise a given person.” — Few sentences summarise social media better than that.

Post of the day: "It is naive to think that a man can be effectively pro-life and manifest consistently the character traits that lead to death." with a remarkable piece on the US election.

"The disagreement between Welfare Liberals and Neocapitalists is about the *means* by which to foster individual self-reliance, not the ultimate value of fostering it. The debate is over how to achieve fairness for each, not the substantive meaning of justice for all." - Bellah

Yes. It comes in between vv1-4 on humility and becoming childlike, and v10 on not despising other believers as if they’re inferior.

I wouldn’t see Twitter as analogous to all in-person interactions; I’d see it as analogous to interactions in a particular context (the pub, a website, a shouting match), which may or may not be conducive to developing love, joy and peace.

When Jesus talks about church discipline (Mt 18:15-20), he compares it to seeking lost sheep (18:12-14), and sandwiches it between sections on childlike humility (18:1-11) and radical forgiveness (18:21-35). That’s not a coincidence.

“It is incredibly sad that former evangelicals, having failed to convince their former colleagues of the arguments for their case, are now threatening to use the force of the State to compel us to follow their doctrines.” ⁦⁩ nails it.

“If your hand or foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away—it’s better to enter life crippled than to have two hands and be cast into eternal fire.” We all know Jesus said this about lust (Mt 5:30). We often forget he also said it about spiritual pride (Mt 18:8).
