In 1999, CA became the first state to pass a domestic partnership law, which was then tested in 2004, in Koepe v. Bernardo Heights Country Club. The CADOJ argued that there was no legitimate business reason to treat domestic partners differently from married couples.

In 1978, Harvey Milk commissioned Gilbert Baker to design a symbol for the LGBTQ community. Baker worked with a team in the attic of a gay community center to design the iconic rainbow flag, which was then raised in San Francisco for the first time on Gay Pride Day.

Studies show, background checks for guns work. They help keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them. will not have an impact on law abiding gun and ammunition owners.

CA voters overwhelmingly passed , which helps keep us safe by changing a loophole in our gun laws to require eligibility checks for ammunition. Starting July 1, all purchases & transfers of ammunition will be subject to an eligibility check and authorization from CADOJ.

helps our Attorney General stop brand name Rx companies from entering into agreements with third parties or generic Rx manufacturers to stop lower cost generics from entering the market. Current practice hurts consumers and has to stop!

Changing the way the federal govt. measures inflation has a huge impact on who is eligible for assistance in CA. I’m urging the OMB to reconsider their proposal to alter how they calculate eligibility for programs and services. It’s more than just numbers—it’s people’s lives.

In 1966, the Los Angeles Committee to Fight Exclusion of Homosexuals from the Armed Forces protested the exclusion of gay people from the military with a 15 car motorcade. It’s a shame that 50 years later, we’re still fighting for full LGBTQ inclusion in the military.

California’s coastline is central to our culture—and it’s in crisis. We’re fighting to protect our oceans at all cost because when you come after our coastal waters, you’re attacking our community and way of life.

“How do you fight something you can’t see?” Our legislation will push these dark, collusive deals between drug companies out of the shadows & help get more affordable drugs on the market. Thank you and for working with me to get this done.

We’re reviewing the Ninth Circuit panel’s ruling on the Trump-Pence gag rule. Staying the preliminary injunction we secured in district court risks access to critical reproductive healthcare for millions of Americans.

Unanimity in felony jury trials improves the quality of deliberation and ensures consideration of minority viewpoints. I’ve joined 9 AGs in asking to reinforce that standard in order to strengthen confidence in the criminal justice system.

We’ve arrested 54 people & seized 53 firearms & 36 lbs of drugs in a gang takedown in Kings County. CADOJ will not tolerate criminal street gangs that sow violence & fear in our communities. We will continue to work w/ Federal, state & local partners to keep our communities safe.
