You said "what punishment of gods are not gifts. Do you really believe that?" @andersoncooper, choking back tears, asks Stephen Colbert, as they discuss grief.
"Yes," replies the comedian. "It's a gift to exist and with existence comes suffering. There's no escaping that." pic.twitter.com/p5rUUhZKxq

Intelligence like this is needed in the age of (trump) ignorance.
Even as an atheist, I’ve always believed all the bad has shaped me into who I am...and that without the horrible bad, I can’t imagine who’d I’d be today, or if I’d even be.
And I wouldn’t wish my bad on anyone.

Even in 7 minutes, the level of reflection is profound...and needed.

What a breath of fresh air. We are starving for real compassionate dialogue in these awful, hateful times. I feel zen now. No more twitter tonight, so I can hold on to this feeling.

This was just a stunning interview and I've never seen grief shared in such a way. I felt like I was in the room with you two. Incredible. Thank you so much.

@StephenAtHome & @AC360, thank you for this. Such mercy. Having spent too many nights in a Ronald McDonald House, holding & loving children through their suffering, the life in those words-“You are not alone”-is abiding profound.

Thank you for helping make sure those children and their families aren’t alone. My husband recently died of cancer. The nurses and volunteers at the infusion center and hospital helped so much while he going through treatment. I hope, eventually, I’m strong enough to volunteer.
