Interesting juxtaposition of the two pieces. I need to learn more about sophisticated capital; unfortunately in our industry often outsize value is captured by arbiters of capital as opposed to risk taking entrepreneurs, thus hurting future labor independence from capital needs.

Perhaps you have the option of going elsewhere? In that case the clinic doesn’t benefit. Most providers are sensitive to patient leakage and don’t turn away patients unless they have no choice.

It is a great podcast - the episode on the justice system is frightening.

One great way for investors to help the company is by providing warm introductions to potential customers and distribution channels during the phase just after product-market fit has been identified.

Totally agreed - investors that take an "activist" role in the company - e.g., attending internal operations meetings - land up hurting the company more than helping in spite of good intentions.

Fair enough. I guess if the notice included strong language on guaranteeing that the 18-point de-identification guideline would be followed, I would very comfortable with the opt-out approach.

I’m torn on this one. If my deidentified information is used to advance science (pharma), I feel better about it than my identified information being used to sell me more products (all internet/consumer companies).

Also VCs need to understand that a single successful investment is not going to “return the fund”. You will need several, unlike pure tech. This will help set more realistic expectations. The investment thesis in has to be accepting of incremental change.
