Heh. He’d probably create a day’s worth of custom menu crafted precisely to my preferences.

Concerned I was gonna hop a flight to his house and steal all the cookies.

You didn't have to eat it right in front of me like that, Rob.

It seemed like I talked to people who came with friends or who saw it on Facebook. Facebook groups are powerful for spreading the word... it’s a shame so many of them are poorly moderated and toxic as heck.

Right? And there’s value in stretching your boundaries. But goodness... it’s just nice to relax and game without pressure. To explore strategies. To zone out and take your time. Etc.

All great points and that regional player availability thing is SO real. Board gaming is still highly niche and having players on hand in person isn’t a given. But connecting with people online to play? It can really help fill that gap.

I totally get the perspective that digital board games are somehow a lesser experience than physical board gaming. It’s just a perspective I don’t share. I think digital board games are enriching, can grow the hobby, and provide rewarding game experiences.

Moreover, while the vast majority of board gamers I know cite playing in person as a key part of game enjoyment... not ALL do. Digital can provide a helpful shield for players in a variety of ways...including illness, social anxiety, or just not wanting to be around people.

Even now... digital gaming lets me connect with remote friends who share my passion for board games in spite of distance. Skype and online games are so much fun for me... and I can wear PJs!

People get different things out of games just in general. I will always be glad emerged at the time I had my kids. Unable to get out and game, digital BGs were an outlet... a way for me to engage in the hobby I live within the restrictions of my life.

Such a solid example. I really worry about it in the podcast I do. But I struggle since I’m so steeped in it.. it’s challenging to find a balance for newbies and more experienced gamers.
