Same!! No matter how hard illustrators and artists work, some people will always want us to make it for less than half of the actual value. And I’d MUCH rather spend time with my baby than devalue myself on a client that doesn’t respect me or my time

Working “very, very hard” does NOT always get you success. Coming from entitled positions, knowing someone, having parents that are celebrities and bribe Ivy League colleges - these things get you “success” without working hard at all. We need to redefine what success looks like

Of course I COULD do it. But here’s the thing: SHOULD we be doing it?! Should I be taking jobs so I can be “successful” at the expense of s maternity leave with my first born child? No. We need to shift our thinking about what success looks like in America. 3/???

Before I went on maternity leave, I had a person inquire about me illustrating their kids book. When I told them I didn’t have the time, they informed me that “a friend of theirs worked 2 jobs while being a single mom with 3 kids, and if she could do it I could.” 2/??

Tell this to the people who work 3 jobs and still barely have enough money to pay off their student loan bills. Or to the people who have families and other responsibilities that also require time and energy. This “hustle” culture in America needs to stop. 1/?

I’m being very lax with the this year haha. This good boy is Lincoln, from the Rome Humane Society, located in Upstate NY. He is one of the cutest happiest pups ever! Give him and his brother King a forever home before I do! 😂
