It is true we have been close over the last 35 years but we can ‘love on’ together no more and it is time to go our separate ways. IX(B) Sqn is now indeed a Typhoon squadron. 31 Sqn will reform in a few years as the first Protector squadron.

I may be showing my ignorance but I don’t believe it is anything more than the quirk of when each squadron was formed and how they first annotated their number.

So, my last full working day as OC 31 Sqn and for The Goldstars as a Tornado unit - but the phone is still on until Sunday night. A poignant day laying up the Standard at Cranwell. Fingers crossed it won’t be long before we go and break it out to form the 1st Protector Sqn. ⭐️

Great news from Belgium as they join the Sky Guardian / Protector club. Who’s next? Meanwhile, our test programme continues full-speed. We have now completed a full flight using the certified Ground Control System (the cockpit)
